ABOUT US

The Confucius Institute in Atlanta was the first in the State of Georgia, and Emory University was the first private university and the first among top Research I universities in the United States to enter into an agreement to establish a Confucius Institute on its campus in 2008.

Emory University's partner institution is Nanjing University, one of China's leading institutions of higher education. In 2011, in faculty and graduate student research productivity, Nanjing ranked second in the nation, following Qinghua University in Beijing. Nanjing University's overall ranking was 6th in the country in 2011.

The Confucius Institute in Atlanta (CI) promotes the learning of Chinese language and culture and fosters engagement with China through cultural activities, travel, teaching, and research. The CI facilitates people-to-people exchanges with China among students, educators, businesses and the public. The CI advances public understanding of China through conferences and publications that disseminate knowledge about China and Chinese cultural traditions.

Emory University emphasizes Chinese Studies across the disciplines including language and literature, social sciences, public health, law, science and medicine as a broad base for teaching and research. The Robert W. Woodruff Library's resources on Chinese culture, society, politics, public health and medicine are unmatched not only in the metro area and the state of Georgia but also in the Southeast region.
