Emory Student Won Third Place in International Chinese Proficiency Competition
Atlanta, Georgia, July 26, 2009. Jackson Kelleher, a Chinese major at Emory University, won third place in the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students.
“Chinese Bridge: Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students” is an annual event sponsored by the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) to promote learning of Chinese Language and Culture among foreign college students. The eighth competition in the “Chinese Bridge” series was held in July in China. One hundred and twelve contestants from all over the world who had won preliminary contests in their home countries participated in the semifinals and finals in China.
Jack Kelleher, a third-year Chinese major and first place winner in the advanced category in the Chinese speech contest held at Emory in spring 2009, was recommended by the Confucius Institute in Atlanta to compete in China. Jack advanced to the finals after successfully competing with thirty contestants in the regional semifinal. In the final competition televised to live audiences in China and abroad, Jack gave a wonderful performance and won third prize.
